Van Usage Policy

The COMET Program provides minivans or other vehicles for use by attendees of the COMET Classroom Education and Training Courses. These vehicles are to be used primarily to shuttle the students between the designated hotel(s) and the COMET classroom. Please read the following guidelines carefully, and sign/date this policy at the bottom in acknowledgment of your understanding.

1. The vehicles may be driven within Boulder County only. If you wish to travel outside of Boulder County, you must first receive permission from COMET Management.
   
   
2. The vehicles are for group use only. Individuals may not use the vehicles for personal errands without prior permission from COMET Management.
   
   
3. No alcohol or drugs may be consumed or transported in the vehicles. No smoking is permitted in the vehicles.
   
   
4. The driver of the van will be treated as a "designated driver", and may not consume any alcohol prior to or while operating the vehicles.
   
   
5. Only COMET employees, course attendees, and family members ("Authorized Drivers and Passengers") may be in the vehicles. No hitchhikers or guest passengers are allowed in the vehicles without prior permission from COMET Management.
   
   
6. The driver and/or passengers of the vehicles will be solely responsible for any parking tickets or moving violations (such as a speeding ticket.)
   
   
7. Any accidents or incidents that might result in claims against UCAR, should be reported IMMEDIATELY to the COMET Staff, so that we can fill out an accurate report for our insurance company.
   
   
8. The UCAR Automobile Liability Insurance Policy will insure authorized drivers and passengers against liability claims by third parties, as long as these guidelines are followed.
   
   
9. Authorized Drivers may be held personally liable in situations where vehicles are operated outside the guidelines of this policy.
   

The UCAR Risk Management Department requires all drivers of UCAR-owned or rented vehicles (including employees and visitors)  to submit their driver's license. If you are willing to volunteer to drive one of the COMET vehicles while you are here, we ask that you send us a photocopy of your current, valid driver's license and a signed copy of the COMET Van Usage Policy. This is purely optional, and if you do not wish to operate our vehicles, you need not submit your license. Please fax this form and a copy of your driver's license to us at (303) 497-8491. We will need to be able to read your License Number, Address, State, Date of Birth, and Expiration Date of the license.
