Summary of Case #5

Case 5 Elevated Stable Layer II

The depth of the elevated stable layer for Case 5 is identical to that for Case 4, but the base of this layer is now located 2 km above mountain top. Although this elevated stable layer does inhibit vertical energy propagation (perturbations above the stable layer are smaller than those in the Reference simulation), this configuration does not produce any significant lee-slope acceleration. This pair of idealized simulations (Cases 4 and 5) hi-lights the sensitivity of the low-level response to the height of the elevated stable layer.
