Hydrology Terminology
- Runoff is the excess precipitation and is often considered a “fast” response.
- Overland flow is the flow of water across the land surface.
- Sub-surface flow is the flow of water through the soil layers to the stream.
- Baseflow is the flow in a channel due to ground water or subsurface supplies. The baseflow is generally increased by precipitation events that produce enough infiltration.
