Snow Energy Exchanges
Sensible Heat (Qh) (convection)
- function of:
- specific heat of the air (Cp)
- air temperature gradient
- turbulence
- If the air temperature increases with height:
- heat is convected to the snow
- If the vapor pressure decreases with height:
- heat is lost from the snow
- In both cases, there must be mechanical turbulence to maintain the vapor pressure gradient.
