Snow Energy Exchanges
Heat Advected by Rain on Snow (Qp)
- First Case
- Rainfall on a melting snow pack, where the rain does not freeze
- Qp = 4.2TrPr (kJ/m2.d)
- where Tr is the temperature of the rain (oC)
- and Pr is the depth of rain (mm/day)
- If Tr = 2oC and Pr = 2 mm, then Qp = 16.8 kJ/m2.d or 0.19 Wm-2
- Very small compared to 800 Wm-2 Incident Solar Radiation!
