Date:      13 April 2000

To:         HydroMeteorology  00-3 Course Attendees

From:     Janice Brown and Wendy Pagel

Subject:  Information you need to know

Greetings.  We are the Administrative Support Staff for the COMET residence courses which are administered by the COMET Education and Training Program. If you have any questions or concerns about the COMET Program, or any of the COMET Classroom Education and Training Courses, please feel free to contact either of us at:

Janice - (303) 497-8338 or Wendy - (303) 497-8469

We have included some very important logistical information, linked at the left, that you will need to know as students of a COMET class.  Please read the information thoroughly. There are some details that we need each of you to provide so that we can make the proper arrangements for your visit.  Each of you is responsible for making your own hotel reservation.

As soon as you know your travel plans, and no later than 26 April 2000, please make your lodging reservations at the Best Western Golden Buff at (303) 442-7450. Please refer to "COMET" when making your reservation. More specific details on housing can be found on the COMET lodging page.

COMET STUDENT CHECKLIST

  1. Travel Arrangements - You will need to make your own travel arrangements.  You should receive your travel authorization code directly from the Office of Hydrology.

  2. Hotel Reservations - Please make your hotel reservations before 26 April 2000.

  3. Participant Questionnaire - Complete and submit the on-line version of the questionnaire no later than 26 April 2000. Please be sure to answer all of the questions.  If you have difficulty accessing the on-line questionnaire, please contact Wendy Pagel (303) 497-8469.

  4. Transportation - It is essential that we know how many students will require the use of the COMET vans so that we can make the necessary arrangements before you arrive.  Please note on the Participant Questionnaire whether you will be using the COMET vans for local transportation or if you have other transportation.

  5. Van Drivers - COMET has three minivans available for the students.  During each class we need at least three people who are willing to drive.  The drivers' responsibility is primarily to shuttle students to and from class each day.  However, the vans are available for use locally for such things as dinner and short outings.  All use of the vans after class is at the discretion of the drivers who have committed to driving to and from class each day. If you are willing to volunteer to drive, please fax (303-497-8491) a clear copy of your driver's license to Wendy as soon as possible.   We are required to obtain a DMV driving record for each driver and this process can take up to three weeks.

  6. First Day Information - Please read our First Day Memo that is available on-line one or two weeks prior to the start of class.

  7. Registration - There is a $30 registration fee for this course.   Please be prepared to pay this registration fee in cash on the first day of class.   This fee covers the cost of miscellaneous items provided by COMET.  We will provide each of you with a receipt so that you can be reimbursed on your travel voucher.

  8. Cancellation - If you find that you will not be able to attend the course as scheduled please notify us as soon as possible.

If we can be of further assistance, let us know.  We look forward to meeting all of you.
