Satellite observed storm top heights as shown by the ZW wake derived heights (open circles) are more uniform than the radar observed storm tops for the 20 to 22 UTC period. However, the accuracy of this wake technique is being studied at the Satellite Focus Group of the National Severe Storms Lab. If this technique is proven sound, it could help alleviate radar height sampling limitations.
