Anvil Growth (contd)

Most of the studies of anvil growth have used the growth right around the storm top to eliminate confusion when more than one storm contributes to a common anvil. Therefore, anvil growth rates are measured right around the storm updraft.

Here is an example of an expanding isotherm right around a storm top. - > Anvil growth image

Anvil growth rate can be viewed graphically.

For each temperature, the slope of a line can be converted to anvil growth. Typically, the fastest growth occurs early in a storms lifetime.
