Satellite thunderstorm lab
Load up the channel 4 GOES-8 1km imagery for 1959, 2045, 2159, 2259 and 2345 UTC times.
Now overlay the surface RUC surface theta-E for the closest times. You can use the time matching menu. Make sure the vertical coordinate reads "NONE" and the level is "0".
Look at the storm in the Western Oklahoma Panhandle at the beginning of the loop.
Estimate what you think the equilibrium temperature is based on the flat anvil area around the storm top.
As you go through the loop, what happens to the thunderstorm equilibrium temperature and the surface theta-E in the storm environment?
If time permits, we'll look at the RUC model soundings for 21 and 00 UTC to see how well the model equilibrium level matches the satellite estimate.
