Teaching Laboratory


The SatMet course is being taught in the Teaching Laboratory at the NCAR Foothills Laboratory in Building 2.

The instructor area includes:


  1. One HP C-Class workstation for reviewing real-time and case-study data using various X-windows software packages such as N-AWIPS, RAMSDIS-X and GARP;


  2. One RAMSDIS system for the ingest and display of real-time GOES data;


  3. One PC for running Microsoft Windows and DOS applications such as web browsers, SHARP, COMET Modules and others;


  4. One AWIPS workstation


Also located in the instructor area is a VCR, sound system and ceiling-mounted video projector.  The video projector can accept up to 8 video input signals, including output from the HP workstation, RAMSDIS, PC (VGA) and VHS video form the VCR.

The seminar area is equipped with wireless microphones that have been placed on each table to allow student questions to be broadcast over the sound system.

The Laboratory Exercise Area includes:

  1. 9 HP 3000 workstations configured the same as the instructor workstation;


  2. 9 PC's for running Microsoft Windows and DOS applications;


  3. One PC that is equipped with a modem to support dial-out capabilities for email;


  4. One Postscript printer;


  5. One desktop copier


Computers in the teaching laboratory are on the Ethernet-based local area network (LAN) which is attached to the Internet.  All students and instructors are given unique logins for access to local email, work processing and internet resources.
