INTEGRATION OF MULTIPLE POLAR SATELLITE DATA IN SUPPORT OF OPERATIONAL FORECASTING

Gary L. Hufford / NWS Alaska Region

with assistance from Anthony Mostek /
NWS Office of Meteorology

The goal of this presentation is to show that polar orbiting satellite data can provide unique and complimentary quantitative data needed to understand and predict processes important to hydrologic, oceanographic and meteorological forecasting that extends past the GOES satellites. Major evaluation and implementation of new and improved sensors today is taking place on the domestic and international polar orbiting satellites at a far faster rate than on geostationary platforms. Examples of polar data uses will be shown.
