WV channel senses a deep layer of the atmosphere. In this instance, the "half-power" points are about 350 mb and 650 mb, and the peak is about 450 mb. | WF Discussion |
WV channel is NOT a window channel--it doesn't sense the surface, only the atmosphere itself or high/deep clouds. |
Weighting function peak moves up in moister atmospheres and down in dryer atmosperes, but it still doesn't see the surface, except possibly for mountains.. |
