Remote Sensing Using Satellites

The Remote Sensing Using Satellites Website contains many large media elements. In order to avoid long download times during classroom and/or lab activities, we have provided the complete content and code for the Website in a compressed archival format. You many download the files to your local server to avoid Internet access requirements. Please review the Disclaimer Notice before proceeding.

The compressed archive file is provided in two formats:

  1. A gzipped .tar file for UNIX-based file systems
  2. A self-extracting .exe file for Windows-based file systems

Please read and follow the instructions provided in the table and notes below.

UNIX

Windows (95, 98, or NT)

  1. Create a new directory in your file system (perhaps called "rsus" or "nsflab")
  2. Download rsus.tar.gz and copy it to the new directory. (This file is approximately 54 MB)
  3. Expand the archive file by executing the following command:
    gunzip -c rsus.tar.gz | tar -xvf -
  4. Inform the instructors and users of the correct URL needed to launch the Website

  2. Download rsus.zip and copy it to the new directory. (This file is approximately 56 MB)
  3. Expand the archive using the WinZip® program.
  4. Inform the instructors and users of the correct URL needed to launch the Website
 

Notes:

  • The uncompressed files will take up approximately 115 MB of disk space. Make sure that you have enough disk space before you begin.
  • This Website utilizes long filenames, so is incompatible with Windows 3.x file systems.
