During this time period Hurricane Fran is moving north/northwest at approximately 18.5 km/hr (11.5 mph) roughly parallel to the Bahamas. There are the remnants of former hurricane, Edouard, off the coast of Maine as well. At this scale of imagery, you can see the size or extent of hurricanes in relation to continental landmasses.

  • Hurricane Fran’s eye becomes more defined
  • Hurricane Fran’s spiral bands become more defined
  • Former Hurricane Edouard’s eye is broad and diffuse

  • Hurricane Fran upgrades from category 1 to
    category 2 (Saffir-Simpson scale)
