Hurricane Fran: Landfall (VIS)

Highlights

Fran is rapidly approaching landfall. The eye of a hurricane is generally the point of reference used for tracking hurricane motion. In visible imagery, the eye appears as a distinct hole in the center of the cloud mass unless high cirrus clouds obscure it.

What to Observe

  • Fran’s eye is visible but the eyewall is not complete
  • The storm is generally tracking straight northward
  • Upper-level clockwise rotation is occurring above low-level counterclockwise rotation

Status

  • Fran is a category 3 hurricane
