Hurricane Nora: Before Landfall (IR)

Highlights

Hurricane Nora was a major Eastern Pacific hurricane of the 1997 season. It followed in the wake of Hurricane Linda from the previous week. Hurricane Nora eroded beaches in Acapulco and caused two deaths in Mexico.

What to Observe

  • Mid-latitude features such as low clouds over the Pacific Ocean and California coast, the Mid-Latitude System, and daytime heating of land
  • The tropical circulations of Nora and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ)
  • Nora moving slowly north/northwest along the Mexican coast

  • Approximately 32-40 hours prior to landfall
  • Category 1 (Saffir-Simpson scale)
