Hurricane Nora was a major Eastern Pacific hurricane of the 1997 season. Nora is moving slowly north/northwest along the Mexican coast. Estimated wind speeds are about 130 km/hr (80 mph) at 1800 UTC.

What to Observe

  • The broad hurricane eye (about 50 nautical miles across)
  • Spiral bands
  • Mid-latitude features such as low clouds over the Pacific Ocean and the CA coast, the Mid-Latitude System, and dry offshore flow (winds) from the continent
  • The tropical circulations of Nora and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ)
  • Nora moving slowly north/northwest along the Mexican coast
  • Sunglint, which is sunlight reflected off the ocean's surface (a hazy region that appears in the lower left corner of the imagery)
