Hurricane Nora: After Landfall (IR)

Highlights

Nora makes landfall for a second time and rapidly weakens. While not readily apparent in the infrared satellite imagery shown here (but more apparent in the corresponding visible satellite imagery), Nora’s motion is now being influenced by a mid-latitude system to the northwest. Southwestern Arizona experiences heavy precipitation with some locales receiving as much as 10-11 inches of rain (amounts comparable to the local yearly average rainfall).

What to Observe

  • Nora has no eye
  • Nora has little or no cyclonic circulation
  • Nora is dissipating
  • Much warmer cloud-top temperatures near the end of the loop

Status

  • Approximately 7-12 hours after first landfall
  • Downgraded from category 1 to tropical storm
