You may already be familiar with many different uses of satellites in communications, television, and global positioning systems. You may not be as familiar with satellite uses in meteorology.

Meteorologists use two types of weather satellites, polar orbiting and geostationary, to monitor the globe. POES satellite is shown below left and GOES is shown below right.
