From June 10 through June 13, 1996, approximately 40 individuals took part
in a COMET Outreach Symposium and Workshop held at the Geophysical Institute
at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. The aim of the Symposium and Workshop
was to bring together representatives from academia, NWS management, and NWS
forecasters to: 1) discuss work on collaborative research projects to benefit
operational forecasting, 2) examine the state of mesoscale modeling, 3) evaluate
its potential effectiveness in the NWS Alaska Region, and 4) consider the applications
and potential for implementation of research mesoscale models into the operational
environment.
