Using the NOAA Satellite Proving Ground Global Flood Website
Course Description
The COMET Program recently updated a course on Using the NOAA Satellite Proving Ground Global Flood Website. The website provides flood extent information useful in numerous applications, including inland and river flooding, tropical storm flooding, dam breaks, ice jam flooding, and environmental analyses. Available flood mapping products, developed by George Mason University, include Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) and Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI) daily products, Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) 1-day and 5-day composites and near-real-time products, and composites of ABI/AHI/VIIRS information.
The flood website is hosted by the University of Wisconsin Space Science and Engineering Center/Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (UW SSEC/CIMSS).
Key Updates
The course was updated to include downscaled Floodwater Depth products and to remove outdated information.
