Course Info: Dual-Polarization Fundamentals

Dual-Polarization Fundamentals

Course Description

In the lesson, learners will gain a foundational understanding of the principles of dual polarization (dual-pol) weather radar. The lesson covers polarimetric radar variables, including differential reflectivity, correlation coefficient, differential phase, specific differential phase, and linear depolarization ratio. Various examples are shown of how these variables can be used with the traditional variables to help identify meteorological and non-meteorological targets. The lesson also integrates three-dimensional renderings of a real-world event for further investigation and understanding of these variables.

Intended Audience

This lesson is designed to help students, professors, and instructors at the university level. However, those looking to gain an understanding of dual-polarization will also find benefits in this lesson. This lesson recommends that learners complete the Weather Radar Fundamentals lesson before starting this one.
