GeoColor Product Imagery: Applications Over Land and Ocean

Course Description

This online course covers the application of GeoColor product imagery for identifying and interpreting various atmospheric and surface features in land and ocean/lake settings. GeoColor imagery offers forecasters and others qualitative views of what's happening across different spatial and temporal scales. Some users of satellite imagery may be under-utilizing this quick look view or might not be aware of when it can be most useful. This lesson uses a variety of examples to explore the uses and benefits as well as limitations of GeoColor imagery, and includes a short overview of aerosol scattering by sunlight and the impact of Sun-satellite geometry from GOES-West and GOES-East perspectives.

Intended Audience

Operational forecasters, meteorology and remote sensing students from the undergraduate level and upward, scientists, and others who rely on satellite products for environmental information.
