3D-PAWS In-person Training
Our Innovative Capacity Development Program (ICDP) utilizes COMET’s wealth of in-house training expertise to support the development and deployment of 3D-PAWS sensor technology. ICDP provides customized in-person training workshops wherever they're needed.
Training covers topics on how to fabricate, calibrate, deploy, and evaluate observations. Participants work in teams to develop practical skills in the following topic areas: computer programming, mechanical and electrical engineering, and atmospheric sciences.
We also support the establishment of regional 3D-PAWS training centers for National Meteorological and Hydrological Services across rural and data-sparse communities.

Operational Training
COMET's ICDP team specializes in delivering customized courses to support operational NMHS capacity development. COMET and ICDP have expertise in supporting observational system development (e.g., weather radar, radiometers, surface network design), forecast system development, and fundamental meteorology training to meet the World Meteorological Organization's Basic Instructional Package – Meteorology (BIP-M) competency standards.

Online Resources & Training
ICDP provides online resources to support 3D-PAWS fabrication and maintenance beyond our in-person training. Our YouTube channel features step-by-step videos on building and maintaining 3D-PAWS, and we have a website with instruction manuals and other documentation.
In addition, COMET provides free classes and courses on hydrometeorological topics—such as coastal flooding, satellite imagery interpretation, applied numerical weather prediction, and more—at all levels of expertise through our world-known education and training platform, COMET MetEd.
